Success is not easy to obtain, people struggle and fail on their way to accomplishments. Nobody has ever become successful by feeling comfortable. In order to triumph in life, we have to master and understand many cognitive abilities. Failures will always come on the way, although, with the right set of mind and nifty skills anything is possible.
To be successful in any work we need extraordinary confidence. However, there are more noteworthy aspects to go together with charisma such as composure, mastering concentration and commitment. Working on obtaining all of the above is not an easy task, it requires years of hard work, dedication and belief.
First, let’s determine what is a success is, Ralph Vernaccha in his book “Inner Strength” writes:
“While only a few may win in any competitive environment, success is available to everyone. Success is not determined by how well one does against another but rather is measured only against oneself. Success can be understood as a product of four essential factors: ability, preparation, effort and will.”
To win against life, we have to take control of our emotions and mind. Mastering concentration and gaining a high level of composure is crucial for success. Anyone that wishes to be victorious in any competitive field will need the commitment to keep on with training and working. Essentially, they will need exceptional confidence which is a significant foundation for success.

Confidence as a foundation
- The notion of believing in yourself holds enormous power. Building the right confidence is crucial for being a successful athlete, businessman or entertainer. However, people need to establish confidence in realistic beliefs. Consecutive practise on your craft will grant you confidence in your athletic skills. Learning about social interaction will make you much more charismatic around people. This is a foundation for building the next components of a successful personality.
- The noteworthy fact is to keep working on your confidence daily. This is not a trait you can take for granted, people tend to lose their way due to the hardships of life. Portal ‘Psychology Today’ writes: “Being confident means knowing that you can handle the emotional outcome of whatever you’ll face. Begin by acknowledging every emotion, including difficult emotions, rather than avoiding them. Speaking up for yourself, limiting self-criticism.”
- A highly influential trait of confidence is ‘will’. It can be described as a belief to keep on working, improving and finding inner strengths. “There are times when you think that you’ve given all that you have only to find even more is required. It is at this point that many a contest is won or lost. It is at this point that some competitors are able to draw upon inner strength and to summon up an even greater effort which they may never have believed themselves capable of exerting.” Ralph Vernaccha, Inner Strength.
- Will is the power that takes all the inner strength within you to the outside. However, there is no will without confidence and belief in yourself.
Composure and Conscientiousness
- Remaining calm and in a state of serenity is significant to making the right decisions. Keeping cool and composure in the most challenging times shows that one has an extraordinary level of conscientiousness.
- To establish composure, an individual needs to free themselves of neurotic states of mind. Neuroticism is a negative personality trait that holds you from having full control over your emotions. Moreover, neurotic behaviours will never help in obtaining success. The opposite term of neuroticism is conscientiousness. The personality trait that allows you to have full control over moods and emotions, people who score high on conscientiousness make better decisions.
- Without establishing composure our other traits, skills and credentials can be overseen and we may in fact lose the possibility of success. Glen Llopis, Forbes contributor, writes: “I worked with a colleague that lacked composure and was always in a panic. Though he had tremendous credentials, he lacked the ability to remain calm and thus often made his employees feel uneasy. His leadership role was just too big for what he was capable of handling. He was often too dramatic and the smallest of problems launched him into crisis management mode. Because he was unable to reinvent himself and adapt to the unexpected, his tenure was short-lived.” Even if we may have all the other skills and abilities for the role without composure we are unable to face unexpected situations and come out of them successfully. In sports, composure is as important as training on your confidence. Every successful athlete can withstand stress during important games and make the right decision in split seconds.

Mastering Concentration
- If you plan on being a successful athlete, you need to learn to master concentration. The ability to stay focused at all times is crucial, so being able to concentrate on one goal at a time can help to deliver much better performances on the court.
- Their many ways of improving concentration, for example, memorizing stuff and building willpower can help with mastering concentration. Practice mindfulness every day, just as confidence none of these traits are granted for life.
- In order to help yourself with mastering concentration, find out what time of day makes you most productive and take advantage of these moments to the fullest. Managing your energy at the correct times is part of concentration. James Clear, book author writes: “I have noticed that my creative energy is highest in the morning. That’s when I’m fresh. That’s when I do my best writing. That’s when I make the best strategic decisions about my business. So, what do I do? I schedule creative tasks for the morning. All other business tasks are taken care of in the afternoon. Nearly every productivity strategy obsesses over managing your time better, but time is useless if you don’t have the energy you need to complete the task you are working on.”

Commitment to the success
- Full commitment is a difficult trait to accomplish. To have that it is essential to already master concentration, composure and confidence. Commitment is based on preparation, effort and willpower. “Being able to utilize one’s ability most effectively and efficiently is something altogether different. This occurs only after the committed investment of oneself in planned and purposeful preparation.” Ralph Vernaccha, Inner Strength.
- Determination towards success and participating in your skills is essential to fully invest yourself in commitment. Concentration is required is commitment, without it, one can not focus on crucial practice. Giving your effort is another side of commitment. “Taking whatever abilities we have, and working hard in preparation to become more skilled and more capable than we have ever been before are truly important and necessary ingredients in becoming a success.” Ralph Vernaccha, Inner Strength.
- Committing also means to keep polishing your abilities consecutively throughout your practice. Stay concentrated and focus on your game at all times your commitment will naturally progress.
Concluding
All four compliments are equally essential for success. They must be learned step by step and consecutively taken care of. Nothing in this world is granted and many make that mistake. Remember to spend time mastering concentration, building confidence and maintaining composure. This will increase your commitment and success will come one day, that is for sure.
