The music industry is one of those businesses that trends are constantly changing. To stay on top of the game artists have to go with the current wave of styles and tendencies that are popular. Today in the peak of technology and social media trends are changing every month. Some are rising and catching star in packed stadiums with fans from all around the country screaming their names, others are labelled out of fashion and left in the listing history to be soon forgotten. What are the newest hits and trends that change music in 2020 and recent years?

Beloved R&B is coming back after a decade of absence.

All of us loved vibrant, energetic and livid vibes of R&B music between ’80s until early ’00s. However, after a certain moment in time, this genera just vanished from radios and playlists.

Now not only in music but also in fashion, we can notice flashback from our beloved era of R&B. Artist like Drake, Party Next Door or DVSN all got many mixed RnB and hip-hop songs in resume.

BUT! UK scene can and should be very excited for its new come R&B sounds. Artists such as; Kara Marni, Greetea Peng or Kadeem Tyrell, all Uk’s native are just the start of rising stars in 2020. Soothing sounds, honest writings mixed on lo-fi R&B will lighten up your night out or should I say stay at home since it's 2020. One way or another, if you are an enthusiast of music don’t sleep on come back of R&B!

Underground making its way into overground

Drill music is starting to catch high popularity among all fans of rap and trap music. Originally, the drill had its birth in the South Side, Chicago in early 2010. It is recognized for violent and nihilistic lyrics that are accompanied by hard bass trap instrumental.

Two years later, a regional subgenre known as the UK drill emerged in Brixton, London. In just 8 years UK drill artists break selling records and making the top 100 on billboards. The most famous drill rapper, Headie One made a collaboration with globally known Drake earlier this year.

The scene that had its beginnings in the basements and block parties in Brixton is now making its way into top charts all around the UK. Drill been catching the high wave of popularity and fame so far, in my opinion, the trend is too enormous to just die off. Mainstream audiences should be prepared for UK Drill making it to the top of the charts.

K-Pop sailed from distant Korea all around the world and beyond.

Korean — Pop really took the music scene by storm back in 2012 with the single ‘Gangnam Style’ by Psy. Love or hate it, with 3.8 billion views it has to be considered one of the biggest singles out there. Although, ever since K — Pop sort of drifted away from the worldwide stage until the rise of extremely successful boys band BTS and respectively girls band Blackpink.

Two years ago, BTS took over the US Billboard with their Love Yourself: Tear Album. Wistful Korean boys for straight two years were fully packing stadiums and areas all around the globe. Girls haven’t stayed behind for long, Blackpink’s single got billions of views and collaborations with superstars like Selena Gomez and Dua Lipa. For both groups mix of elusive dance and catchy vocal in English and Korean turned up to be a recipe for success.

Never forgotten.

The industry felt incredibly concerned after many artists passed away due to mental health problems and drug abuse. Mac Miller, Lil Peep, Avicii and Chester Bennington were huge losses for the music industry and left millions heartbroken. Their music and influence will stay with us forever and we shall have our repeat buttons turned on every time their art sings.
